In conversation with Msaki Mvana

Image
Msaki Mvana & The Golden circle made their very first debut at the National Arts Festival in 2017, and its quite possible that I may have become a super fan thereafter. Their music not only creates dialogue and sparks controversial conversation, but it enlightens and soothes the soul.  This video festures Msaki answering a number of quirky questions relating to her personal life.  Video by Kholeka Majola You can follow her on: Instagram: @Msaki_za Twitter: @Msaki_ZA

Neolektra: "We are immortal"

Image
"Neolektra is an exciting and dramatic orchestra combining strings with percussion, synths and electronics to create an epic sound likened to film and gaming music". After making a debut at the 2017 National Arts Festival, I produced this awesome video for Cue media, which received commendable views online. Intimacy

Image
A taste of sanctuary that effortlessly departs distress. An intricate interaction between the mind and heart, that creates tension between fantasy and reality. The sensation which gently strings out one’s unintentional intentions, caressing the soul to create a sacred space whilst hypnotizing the mind to illustrate the perfect illusion. It’s the ambiguous nature of two beings inadvertently losing themselves to the other, subconsciously exhuming more than just chemistry. A touched engulfed by more than sexual tension, but the desire to reach a state of oblivious nirvana- A feeling that extends far beyond the physical, the savor of affection, understanding and familiarity. It’s the recollection of trivial moments that ignited the passion, awakening the rush of adrenaline that was experienced. The quiver of the body craving mental and physical stimulation, which is calmed by the distinction between love and lust. It’s the nostalgia that moves stealthily

An Ode to Retrospect

Image
I BELIEVE. I believe freedom is light to our darkness Shadows no longer linger engrossed in contempt Reeling in the past that was forgotten in disdain  I believe the state of the mind is a powerful force Which shakes the very evil that threatens euphoria, To bind the healing elements to create or restore. I believe love is a decision, a choice Which has been created to serve both counterparts. It is revolutionary,   It redirects hate and paints a world full of possibilities. I believe Contentment is the guiding principle for peace To relinquish futile activities and fully commit to solitude, Soaking in the very essence of life by seeking very little for living I believe sex is sacred It cannot simply be stripped down to an act of worthlessness. It binds two strangers that strive to become one, The ultimate feeling of surrender. I believe in music The very chords that release anxiety, Suppress fear, cure loneliness I believe

The Care-Free Black Girl?

Image
Care free Black girl is a title I assume, has been coined at the height of movements such as #Black Lives matter and AfroPunk, which paved the way for an essential Black women movement known as Black Girl Magic and Black Girls Rock, which is a title ascribed to restore the power, beauty and royalty of Black women all across the globe. Word on the street i.e. social media has determined the essence of the ultimate care free Black girl: Natural haired, free spirited, peculiar dress sense, unbothered, and to a certain extent, “liberated”. I use that last term with careful consideration seeing that we live in an era where “political correctiveness” is seen as a pivotal point in conversation. Being liberated in terms of the self may refer to one’s mindset or attitude (which extends to demeanor) which thrives on self-love and assurance, by stemming away from society’s standards. I recall being labeled as a care free black girl, and to be honest, I did a bit of research t

The power within

I'm often baffled by the statement "women are such complex beings" simply because it places ALL women into one category, totally disregarding our individual preferences, personalities and cognition. I'm yet to encounter  an individual that sees women as free-spirited beings who encompass individual autonomy and are easy to read, which makes them "more accessible beings". To be fair, I probably have come across such people (particularly men), but nobody dares to out-rightly claim that the female species is simple and clear-cut, because chances are, they have had a counter-experience. In my view, women are not complex beings. Not at all. Self-governance, self-reassurance and control over our feelings is what we hold dear to us, or at least yearn to possess. Before we can convince anybody that we are great, there has to be a part of us that vividly believes it first, even if it that may  take us yonks to establish. Every woman wants to feel powerful in the
